Whale Tales – The Magic of Puffins

By Captain Ken Rea

It was a magical TUFTED PUFFIN experience watching them dive for baitfish. They would dive and come up from under the bait balls and the fish would boil on the surface trying to get clear of the puffin’s beak.

The sea was calm, and the water coloring was beautiful. We watched the TUFTED PUFFIN for quite a while before I started searching for the HORNED PUFFIN. This is the 4th time I have seen this bird in my trips to the colony. He gave us time to capture a few shots before taking flight which is kinda comical to watch in itself.

There was a BROWN PELICAN on one of the tours and I stopped by to share the CORMORANT colony too. A few minutes admiring the enormous STELLER SEA LION and we saw MINKE WHALES on my evening tour.
