Milport Slough
Alder Island Nature Trail, opened to the public in 2017, is a short easy hike just off of Highway 101 south of Lincoln City.
The 1/2-mile gravel trail winds through a mixed forest along the Siletz River and Millport Slough.
The trail gives hikers opportunity to view herons, egrets, a variety of ducks and other wildlife. Young alders, red flowering currant, salmon berry and elderberry are scattered throughout the island.
Hikers enjoy the sounds of bird song and the rushing Siletz River.
Access to the trailhead is on the east side of the highway (turn east into the small parking lot near the large refuge sign along the highway). The trail begins near the information kiosk.
