Before I lose the cool bookmark I picked up at Oregon Ag Fest* in April (2017), let me share the data that was on it. If you didn’t know all this before, then you learned it here – smile./jj

• Oregon has over 34,000 farms

• 98% of Oregon farms are owned by families

• More wheat is grown in Oregon than any other grain

A potato has more potassium than a banana

• The world’s largest strawberry shortcake is found at the Lebanon, Oregon’s annual Strawberry Festival

• Oregon grows more storage onions than any other state

• Oregon grows enough pears to stretch back and forth from Portland to New York City 16.5 times

Blueberries are the second most popular berry in the US

• A dairy cow produces 6-7 gallons of milk daily

• Oregon grass seed is shipped to over 60 countries.
